Unless the promise of spending time with our pal Ms. Veronica Belmont and another episode of
Qore sounds like a nice Thursday night (there's an episode teaser after the break) it might be best to just ignore this week's PSN update. Per usual, the rhythm games add some content and there's also some game videos that might be of interest. With E3 only a couple weeks away, it's understandable that things are a bit quiet at the moment, but we're seriously starting to itch for
PixelJunk Eden!
This week's
European PSN update adds several pieces of
Buzz!-worthy content; check it out over at
PS3 Fanboy.

With tomorrow being the day the US became independent from France ... what, England, really? Anyway, Harmonix announced its tracks for next week's
Rock Band DLC a day early. We've got a couple songs from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rush. "Working Man" was actually
released as DLC before, but this version is a master and features an alternate solo.
Individual songs (160 MS points/ $2)
- "Snow (Hey Oh)" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
- "Tell Me Baby" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
- "Closer to the Heart" - Rush
- "Working Man" (Vault Edition) - Rush
Check out the videos for these songs after the break. The tracks will be available for download next Tuesday and Thursday for Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively.

In an interview with
GameDaily, GameTap's VP of Content, Rick Sanchez, explains that rumors of the gaming-buffet's death are "greatly exaggerated." Although he avoids divulging whether GameTap is profitable, he does say that it is hitting parent company Turner Broadcasting's P&L (
profits and losses) figures, so apparently it's still keeping daddy happy.
Although rumors of
GameTap's demise have pretty much been present since the service launched -- something even Sanchez jokes about -- things went into overdrive after the company
laid off its all-star editorial team. GameDaily reports it heard rumors in the wake of the firings that the service would remain online only as a shell until December and then be buried. Sanchez "categorically denies" any of that, pointing to
Grimm and more announcements expected in the future as proof of the service's growth.

Activision
announced this morning that
Guitar Hero: On Tour is booking gigs all over and has sold 300,000 units in its first week. The publisher states that
GH:OT is the company's best launch on the DS by a factor of eight; not only that, but it's also one of the top five best-selling launches "in the company's history."
Activision's Mike Griffith -- who's probably
still high from his $1.5 million bonus -- is excited about
GH:OT's "breakthrough peripheral" bringing the
Guitar Hero experience to the potential 41 million DS owners in NA and Europe. All we know is we'll have entered a strange new world if we start seeing people playing this game on public transportation.

As we slowly prepare for the long weekend here in the States, hunkering down for some game playing with a grill right next to us, it's probably worth mentioning that
GameTap's selection of free games (which we've listed after the break) won't cost you a dime or, more importantly, gas money getting to the mall. All that cash can be spent on some extra meat for the barbecue. But first, let's look at the new subscription games this week.
- Descent: Freespace (Windows) - If you liked Wing Commander: Prophecy and miss that whole space pilot genre, definitely check out Freespace.
- Off-road Redneck Racing (Windows) - Oh boy, do we have to write something here? Umm, Rednecks go racing ... it's slightly less offensive than Redneck Rampage.
GameTap's
free games list doesn't get any new additions this week, but if you haven't played
Tomb Raider: Legend or
Deus Ex, what are you waiting for?

Ninja Gaiden 2 will receive Mission Mode as DLC on July 25, according to a post on
NeoGAF. Mission Mode, if similar to the original iteration introduced in
Ninja Gaiden Black, drops Ryu into an arena setting and lets him go on a flippin' awesome ninja killin' spree. There is currently no price attached to the new Mission Mode DLC.
The possibility of a Mission Mode should come as good news to
NG II players who don't find
dressing up Ryu like a Ken doll a worthwhile activity. But, let's be honest, if it's anything like the original Mission Mode, shouldn't it have been shipped with the game or, and we're hoping this is the case, at least be free?

Former Atari CEO Bruno Bonnell received 3 million Euros ($4.76 million)
for running the company into the ground to
leave the company last year.
GameDaily reports Bonnell was apparently given the package by
Infogrames -- which was a majority shareholder at the time -- without Atari's management receiving a copy of the agreement until two months after the deal was done.
Of course, this is a ghost from
Atari's
past, not the
new incarnation we're slowly getting to know. We just like this story because, frankly, we're jealous. We want $4.76 million for throwing a company into
financial ruin ... heck, we'll settle for a $100 bucks and a free round of drinks at the pub.

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick and co-chairman Brian Kelly have each received bonuses from the company of approximately $3 million each. Michael Griffith, CEO of Activision Publishing, also received a bonus according to SEC filings, but his was only for around $1.5 million -- poor guy. The bonuses were given due to Activision's
incredible success last year.
With the
Vivendi merger imminent, it's worth noting some analysts find Activision an
excellent investment. It's not every day you can clearly point to a game publisher and see guaranteed profits in the near future.

After it was announced that
Uncharted and, well,
"every game" for the PS3 will receive Trophies, many expected Insomniac's two titles would be on the shortlist of receiving updates in the "foreseeable future." Sadly, Insomniac's Bryan Intihar expresses on the
PlayStation Blog that
Ratchet and Clank Future and
Resistance: Fall of Man aren't getting Trophy updates soon.
Intihar writes that there are currently no plans to add Trophies because the company's "No. 1 focus" is finishing up
Resistance 2. We're disappointed, but we'll take this to mean Insomniac isn't dismissive of Trophies and giving it over to the summer intern as busy work.

Even the Kiwis were no match for the armed and fully operational GameStop empire as it acquired New Zealand's largest independent gaming chain.
GameDaily reports that New Zealand's The Gamesman will be absorbed into the
GameStop collective and bring the company's presence in the country to 38 stores. This news confirms
rumors from last month of The Gamesman's demise.
On the bright side, Phil McPhee, general manager of The Gamesman, says the move will "enhance the service and experience for customers." Wow, Gamesman's customer service must have been
awful! Good thing it got bought out by GameStop.

The comic-geeks over at
Big Download followed the clues left in DC comic books this week and have found a
MySpace page for
DC Universe Online. The site contains the painfully small first screenshots seen in the gallery below.
The MySpace page also showcases several concept drawings for the game and wallpaper downloads. Also, those who make the game's MySpace page their top friend,
may get invited to Sony Online Entertainment's big reveal party later this month at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Ensemble Studios' Bruce Shelley says that "
several demo stations" of
Halo Wars will be available at E3. This is generally considered good news, because it means
Halo Wars has gotten to the point where it's no longer held in captivity by the developers who don't want anybody to touch a thing. It also eases our fears of further delays following Ensemble's "
when it's done" quote from last month.
We will certainly have hands-on impressions of the game at E3 and with luck, we'll be able to nail down a more solid release window. We keep hope alive that
Halo Wars, built from the ground up for the Xbox 360, could finally figure out the RTS genre for consoles.
